Amy is very excited to be a part of Compass this year, and is looking forward to meeting her new students! Prior to joining the school , she has been worked since 2012 as an Occupational Therapist, practicing throughout NYC in a variety of schools and pediatric centers. Born and raised in Sarasota, FL, she however received her BA in Sociology at University of Florida in Gainesville before moving to Brooklyn where she earned her OT Masters Degree at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 2012.
Amy got introduced to the world of OT in 2005 while volunteering at HOPE, a therapeutic horseback riding center, where she spent 5 years learning the applications of hippotherapy for children and adults with physical, developmental and mental health disabilities. During that same time, Amy experienced the joys of working with kids when she joined the Waldorf Preschool Morning Meadow, which provided her invaluable experience in the field of child education. Years later, moving to NY proved to be a major shift in her career, expanding her professional horizons with a large variety of OT settings, experiences and specializations within schools, sensory gyms and hospitals. Amy loves getting to know the needs of each child and customizing each session according to their strengths and interests to further their growth and independence in school. She is also an artist and jewelry designer who loves to integrate creative hands-on projects in her therapeutic approach, which also includes movement and sensory fulfilling activities for the children.
Amy has recently returned to her first love of horse therapy outside of Compass, working as an OT at Gallop in Prospect Park in the afternoons. If you see her in the park with the horses, say hi!
