    • Your child’s birth certificate

    • One proof of residency (see details below)

    • If your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), please send us a copy electronically to: enrollment@brooklyncompass.org.

If you don’t have some or all of the documents digitally saved on your phone or computer, then you can take pictures of them and email them to enrollment@brooklyncompass.org. In the subject line type: “Enrollment Documents + Student Initials”

Please note that if you take a picture of the documents, you will still need to bring in the actual documents for copies to be made for their student file.

  • Students at Compass are required to wear clothing that is conducive to an active learning environment. They are expected to dress in clothing that is appropriate and supportive for playing, sitting on a rug, dancing, running, and participating in art and garden projects. Our uniform is detailed below.

Tops: Students are required to wear either a short sleeve or long sleeve Compass T-shirt. These shirts include the school logo and are available through our ongoing Compass shirt swap, Ideal Uniform, and Bonfire. Students are permitted to wear solid cardigans or zip-up hooded sweatshirts with no logos or writing on them in addition to their Compass T-shirts.

*We recommend ordering shirts as soon as possible because processing and shipping times can be longer in the summer months.

Bottoms: Children may wear jeans, khakis, leggings, skirts with tights, leggings, or shorts underneath, shorts that are no shorter than 3 inches above the knee, or sweatpants in addition to their Compass shirts. Pants, shorts, and skirts must be loose enough for students to maintain a wide range of comfortable movement. Pants, shorts, or skirts may not have large logos, writing, or holes.

Shoes: For the safety and health of their feet, students must wear sneakers to school. In the event that a student wears boots to school in inclement weather, it is required for them to bring an additional pair of sneakers to change into for the day. We do not permit the following footwear: sandals, ballet flats, and flip flops.

Jewelry: Jewelry may be worn at Compass as long as it is safe to play in and does not disrupt the learning environment. We recommend jewelry that stays close to the body (e.g., stud earrings, bracelets, short necklaces, etc.) and that is able to be worn while participating in high-activity situations. The school is not liable for the loss of jewelry, and recommends that students do not wear expensive jewelry to school.

  • We use ParentSquare to communicate with our families. Upon enrolling, we will place you in the New Compass Families group in ParentSquare, so that we can communicate and share updates with you. Sometime in the summer, you will be rolled over into your specific class.

    • Applicants who were given priority in our lottery because they qualify for free or reduced-price lunch are required to provide documentation proving this qualification. Examples of such proof include a food stamp benefit enrollment letter (e.g., a Supplemental  Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or States Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) letter), your most recent annual tax return, or a paycheck dated within the past 60 days.

    • Applicants who were given preference in our lottery because they live in Community School District 13 (CSD13) are required to provide two proofs of residency that have an address in CSD13.
