Family School Collaborative
Our Mission Statement
The Compass Family-School Collaborative seeks to ensure an open and welcoming school environment, where passion and purpose come together to find meaningful ways to uplift our students and our community. Our objectives include fundraising, sponsoring events that bring our community together, supporting teachers and staff, and advocating for the needs of all of our families. The Compass FSC celebrates our differences while searching for understanding and common ground. We invite the honest and non-judgmental exchange of ideas, with the goal of forming solutions that will strengthen our school community. We pledge to do all we can to support the educational enrichment and general well-being of our children, both in and out of the classroom.
What We Do
The Compass FSC is our version of a PTA or PTO. One of the main goals of the FSC is to bring parents and staff together for community-building events and initiatives, such as family events, fundraisers, community service, and special programming.
This year, we have planned several fun fundraisers, including the Winter Fling - a really fun party with music, drinks, food, and a silent auction.
We also organize purely social get-togethers for the entire community, such as movie nights, picnics, and have had a talent show and professional magic show. We also offer Family Workshops, which aim to educate parents on the Compass curriculum and a wide range of topics that are of interest to the community. Past workshops have discussed how to talk to your child (and each other) about race, how to incorporate meditation into your daily life, and more.
The proceeds of our fundraising go towards arts programming, dance classes at Mark Morris, field trips to the New Victory Theater, scholarships for our after school program, and other initiatives.
We hold a community meeting of the FSC every other month throughout the school year. We hope to see you at many of them!
We are always looking for people to help lead the FSC! If you are interested in joining the FSC Leadership Board or a committee, please email us!
