Back-to-School Pizza Party

Join us in Fort Greene Park for Pizza, Friends, Compass Staff, and Fun!

It's time for our annual Back to School Party in Fort Greene Park!

Bring your whole family to meet the Compass staff, talk to your child's teachers, and get to know other Compass families.

This year we will provide pizza for all. You are welcome to bring something to share (fruit, snacks, drinks), but it's not required.

We'll have an area in the park for each class to gather. When you arrive at the park, look for your child's class and head over to meet the teachers, other children, and their families.

The FSC will have a table at this event--please stop by to say hi!

“Is it okay to say...”
And Other Uncomfortable Questions

Real Talk with Compass Parents:
A Community Conversation about Race, Class, Gender & Culture

Thursday, March 16, 6pm
6pm dinner & childcare check-in
6:30pm-7:45pm discussion

We’ve all got questions and concerns about how to talk to our kids (and each other!) about differences and diversity. Maybe you’ve had a situation with your kids where you weren’t sure how to respond or you’ve learned a strategy that you’d like to share. We’re collecting questions so we have a head start on some of the topics we can cover during our Family Workshop. There are NO stupid questions or topics too big or small. We hope to evolve this into a series of conversations where we can explore these issues together and learn from one another’s experiences. Please join us for a moderated discussion with Compass Parents:
Irwin Chen (Pine)
Vin Sharma (Elm)
Sara McKay (Pine)
Lateefah Torrance (Oak)

Moderated by Doris Chang (Pine), an Associate Professor of Psychology, New School for Social Research

Submit your anonymous questions to http://tinyurl.com/fscteachingtolerance or to the envelope in the BIG hallway (not the red door hallway)

Family Workshop

  • Compass Charter School - Community Room (map)

This workshop will focus on understanding Zones of Regulation, which is an evidenced based emotional regulation curriculum used across the school. The curriculum focuses on helping children identify what emotion they are experiencing, the zone it falls in, and then adaptively using coping skills to move in between the zones.

All kids are learning to regulate their emotions, and this curriculum helps them learn to effectively use coping skills when experiencing overwhelming feelings to promote positive behaviors.

This event will be held in the Community Room. Dinner and babysitting will be provided! It is sure to be an enlightening workshop--we hope you can join us.
